The driving range is the perfect place to take out any frustrations – it is a great way to get active and focus on something else altogether. If you have never been to a driving range before, here’s the lowdown.
Can Anybody Use a Driving Range?
Yes! Most driving ranges are open to the general public. You don’t have to be a golfer and it doesn’t matter if you have never played a round of golf in your life. Doing anything new for the first time can be daunting so if you’re unsure then just hang about and watch other people at it for a while so that you can see how they do it. If you want, you can book some lessons – most driving ranges have golf professionals to hand to show you how to perfect your swing.
Is it Expensive?
Not at all – you pay a nominal fee for a basket of balls – usually in batches of 50 or 100. These can last you a while. You can also hire golf clubs if you don’t own a set. You will need to ask for a driver and a few irons but you won’t need a putter.
What Else Will I Need?
You should wear clothing that is loose-fitting but with nothing too loose that it will get in the way of your swing. A pair of trainers or golf shoes will be fine for your feet. You’ll also need a golf glove otherwise you’ll get blisters – it’s also useful for getting the perfect grip on your club.
How Does It Work?
You stand in your own dedicated booth, line up your shot and go for a target (these are set out clearly in front of you). Ranges are usually floodlit so you can use them in the dark too. A protected buggy goes around the field collecting balls so don’t worry about retrieving them yourself!
What Else Can I Do When I’m There?
If you really start getting into golf then there are usually short game practice areas where you can perfect the closer shots, and a practice putting green too. Then of course you can always head out for a game of golf! Courses are usually 9 or 18 holes but you need to follow a few rules in order to go out and play. A driving range is the perfect place to take your mind away to somewhere else. And you’ll get so good at your swing that you’ll be out on the course in no time. Maybe your stress will turn you into the next Tiger Woods!
